Nancy Lynn Keck was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 6, 1954.  She is the oldest of two children.  Her brother, Peter is a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel that now works as a pilot.

Nancy grew up in Euclid, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland.  She attended Euclid High School, graduating in 1972.  Nancy attended college at John Carroll University but did not graduate.  Her major was English with a focus on writing, particularly Journalism.

In 1973, Nancy went to work for Ohio Bell Telephone Company, starting by typing the white pages of the phone book.  She worked her way up to Major Accounts Marketing Representative, handling the education and transportation markets.  Her position in Major Accounts proved to be both exciting and challenging particularly during the Divestiture in 1984 when Ohio Bell became a subsidiary of Ameritech.  Nancy chose to stay with Ameritech, rather than moving to one of the companies that was formed to handle telephone equipment.  That decision proved to be a good one, but the idea of owning her own business had always appealed to Nancy.

Nancy married in 1976 and had a daughter, Beth, in 1977.  Unfortunately, the marriage ended in divorce in 1983.  Still working full time, Nancy went back to school part time to study Business and Marketing.  She graduated from college in 1995, the same year her daughter graduated from high school.

In 1996 Nancy met her current husband, William (Bill) Piotrowski.  He was a widower raising four children.  Bill owned Courier Plus, a small delivery service.  His office was his dining room table.  He was trying to work 24 hours a day and finding the business growing faster than he could manage.  Nancy happened to be looking for a part time job.  Bill hired her as a courier.

Over time, Bill and Nancy realized that they were going in the same direction.  Nancy purchased an ownership interest in the company.  Courier Plus was moved into its own space.  It continued to expand, adding additional services including trucking.  Nancy purchased an additional ownership interest and became President.  The marketing plan of Courier Plus Delivery Service changed to focus on a majority female owned courier and trucking business—a bit of a rarity in the day.  Bill and Nancy married on June 29, 2000.

By 2003, the business was doing well and occupied a large part of their location’s rental space.  On December 31, 2003, a cold day in Cleveland, the weather changed from rain to sleet to ice.  Nancy was leaving her office for the day when she slipped on black ice on the concrete stairs exiting the building and fell hard.  She broke her right leg and badly injured her left knee.  The accident that day changed Bill and Nancy’s life forever.

Nancy’s injuries healed but remined problematic, particularly in the wet and cold Cleveland weather.  They were proud of the work they had done to grow their business.  But a decision had to be made.  They began to think about moving somewhere South.  They checked out several states and finally decided on Texas.  The weather offered the relief Nancy needed and Bill loved the outdoors.  Also, Nancy’s brother lived in San Antonio and her best friend from school lived in a suburb of Austin.  Somehow, they settled on Burnet.

It was while they were living in Burnet that Nancy was introduced to Rotary.  Encouraged by a local business owner to come to a Rotary meeting, Nancy finally gave it a try.  When she walked into the meeting, she knew she was home.  The people made her feel welcome and needed all at the same time.  Since that day, Nancy has been as active as her health will allow.  She has stepped up on many occasions to teach when called upon.  Nancy has served as Treasurer for a time and has also served as Interact Chair on the local and District levels.  Nancy’s positive experience with Rotary is what got Bill to finally join the organization.

More recently, Nancy has been involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary in leadership roles including both Auxiliary and District President in honor of the service of her husband, father, brother, stepsons and nephew.  Recently, Nancy has introduced the VFW Military Assistance Program (MAP) to Ft. Hood and  Rotary.  This effort will bring active soldiers together with Rotary members.  Nancy is truly hoping that this joint project moves forward.
