And in case you missed last month:
              Service Above Self Ideas:

Every feel bad when flying thinking about how emissions from flights stay in the atmosphere and will warm the earth for several centuries? Here is a quick tutorial by Bruce Morlan on how to use the NEW ESRAG Carbon Estimator  https://esrag.org/flight-carbon-estimator/). Now we are able to compensate for our air travel and support the planet with this tax-deductible donation!  This donation will help ESRAG with Rotary Global Grants to support the environment.

Did you know that eating less meat is good for the planet?  A study in the journal Scientific Report found that if every American ate 25% less meat that it would lower greenhouse gas emissions by about 1%.  If everyone in the country went vegetarian that would equal a reduction of about 5%.  It might not sound like much but every bit helps. The issue is the methane and carbon dioxide cows emit.   "Cattle are the number one agriculture source of greenhouse gases worldwide," says Grace Chen O'Neil, M.D., an emergency  and lifestyle medicine doctor.   Other ways eating less meat help: Raising fewer livestock reduces deforestation, says PeterStevenson, chief policy advisor for Compassion in World Farming.  The demand for soy for livestock is huge - 77% of global soy is used for livestock feed and that has lead to the expansion of farmland into forests and other habitats, he says.  Then there is waste:  Animal waste  "produces runoff that pollutes our waterways, harms aquatic and marine animals, destroys topsoil, and contaminates the air we breathe.

Making a Difference!

Green Steps  provides service opportunities through supporting the environment, the newest area of focus in Rotary.  Green Steps is how members of Rotary E-Club of Central Texas can do service together while being apart.  We can each do our part and that is our service.

Green Step #1 Avoid plastic by taking reusable  water bottle and bags with you. Reduce plastic by using Laundry Detergent  liquid free eco sheets like Earth Breeze.
Green Step #2 Meatless Monday- Eat less meat and eat more environmentally friendly foods.
Green Step #3 Plant Pollinator Plants. By replacing grass with native flowers  and plants  you don't have to mow, water, fertilize, or use pesticides and that is good for  bees!
Green Step  #4 Mindful Mowing (wait until wildflowers go to seed to mow)
Green Step #5 Leave the Leaves on the ground. Allow leaves to turn into compost and help the soil.
Green Step #6 Respect, Reverence, Respect in Relationship to Mother Earth by walking softly, leave no trace, feast responsibility, look to the Seventh Generation in all you do.
Step #7 Plant a Tree.
Step #8 Lunch Local for Love (shop local farmer's markets)
Step #8- Be kind to bees ! Plant pollinator plants, don't use pesticides, put up a Mason bee house.
Step #9  Lights out at night for migrating birds.
Step #10  Recycle, compost and rethink every time you purchase something in plastic, (is there an alternative?)
Step #11 Use less electricity by unplugging electronics when not in use.
Step #12. Drive and fly less, bike more; Drive electric if you can. Fill your car tires to recommended pressure.

Green Steps is how Rotary e Club of Central Texas do service individually since  members live apart. We can all make a difference  together.
