. Welcome to the Flexible, Friendly, Fun Rotary Family -
Rotary E-Club of Central Texas
Rotarian of The Month
Brigitte Pahwa
The first 12 years of my life were spent moving between Africa, Madagascar island and France.
My father was a physician in the French army, and was sent to the colonies at that time.
I was born in a country that is called now Central African Republic in central Africa.
When I was 12 my father retired from the army and came to settle in southern France, in a town called Grasse, where he opened his practice. The industrial base of Grasse is perfume.
I finished my schooling and went to Nice to study for 3 years in a trading school where I got a diploma.
My parents thought that all of us children (5) needed to be involved in helping in the community projects. So, from the age of 14, through a nonprofit organization, I went to the countryside on my moped, to support a young family with food, clothing and medicine. I painted apartments, pushed wheelchairs in the Nice carnival, visited people in retirement homes etc. I did this until I came to America.
All through my life I participated in diverse local projects like helping young children in reading in school, teaching basic English to foreigners, cleaning parks, delivering meals for Meals on wheels etc.…
Three international projects will stay in my mind forever. I enjoyed going to the Philippines and India to entertain the children in a hospital where they were waiting for their cleft palate surgeries performed by Rotaplast. The results were so immediate! When a young man comes to you carrying his child after the surgery and tells you “Now I am a happy father” you know that the surgeons have changed his life.
I also traveled to Togo in West Africa, to deliver impregnated mosquito nets to fight Malaria. A rotary club in Lomé, the capital, organized the deliveries all over the country. These Rotarians are full of energy and very optimistic even though they have big needs like water in the schools and safe drinking water at home. By the way I got this idea from a house of friendship in a convention.

Let's have some December Fun with Secret Santa. We will draw names and then send cards and little gifts (maybe 3) not spending over $25. At the January meeting we will guess and reveal our Secret Santa. Please reply giving some information about yourself like what you like to drink, eat, snacks, hobbies, sports, anything that you can share about yourself. To keep yourself a secret use my return address on all the cards (Rotarian Joan Bohls, P.O Box R, Bastrop, Texas 78602)

Green Steps provides service opportunities through supporting the environment, the newest area of focus in Rotary. Green Steps is how members of Rotary E-Club of Central Texas does service together while being apart. We can each do our part and that is our service. Green Step #1 is reducing plastic by taking reusable water bottle and bag with you. Green Step #2 Meatless Monday focus is on the impact of meat production on the environment. Green Step #3 Plant Pollinator Plants. By replacing grass you don't have to mow, water, fertilize, or use pesticides and that is good for bees! Green Step #4 Mindful Mowing (wait until wildflowers go to seed. Green Step #5 Leave the Leaves on the ground. Green Step#6 Respect, Reverence, Respect in Relationship to Mother Earth by walking softly, leave no trace, feast responsibility, look to the Seventh Generation.
These steps we can all make together will make a big difference in our world.
One of the challenges of an E-Club and of the pandemic is building better friendships. So the goal of Rotarian of the Month is to know each other better. When you are named please forward me a picture and lots of information about you- like where you grew up, family, schools, career, hobies, Rotary service. We want to get to know each other.
