Start the New Rotary Year with Hope for the earth and tomorrow's world!
Each month have a member give a One Minute idea on Supporting the Environment.
Here is an idea for July Environmental Minute:
When it comes to attracting beautiful butterflies and birds to your yard or community, the best thing you can do is use native plants. By planting natives, you restore the health and function of your local ecosystem. This website will help you find the best native plants specifically for your area that attract butterflies and moths and the birds that feed on their caterpillars, based on the scientific research of Dr. Douglas Tallamy and Research Assistant Kimberley Shropshire. 3,200 references were used to create the data base.

Ask a Rotarian in your club to be on the District ESRAG 5870 committee and just send me their name.
Making a Difference!

More Ideas -service opportunities through supporting the environment, the newest area of focus in Rotary.

#1 Avoid plastic by taking reusable  water bottle and bags with you. Reduce plastic by using Laundry Detergent  liquid free eco sheets like Earth Breeze.
#2 Meatless Monday- Eat less meat and eat more environmentally friendly foods.
#3 Plant Pollinator Plants. By replacing grass with native flowers  and plants  you don't have to mow, water, fertilize, or use pesticides and that is good for  bees!
#4 Mindful Mowing (wait until wildflowers go to seed to mow)
#5 Leave the Leaves on the ground. Allow leaves to turn into compost and help the soil.
#6 Plant a Tree.
Step #7 Lunch Local for Love (shop local farmer's markets)
Step #8- Be kind to bees ! Plant pollinator plants, don't use pesticides, put up a Mason bee house.
Step #9  Lights out at night for migrating birds.
Step #10  Recycle, compost and rethink every time you purchase something in plastic, (is there an alternative?)
Step #11 Use less electricity by unplugging electronics when not in use.
Step #12. Drive and fly less, bike more; Drive electric if you can. Fill your car tires to recommended pressure.
